Hacienda Mexican Foods, a locally-owned and operated tortilla and tortilla chip producer, originated in Southwest Detroit in 1994 and remains deeply involved in civic and community activities in the area. The SDBA plays a crucial role in supporting and nurturing indigenous manufacturing businesses like Hacienda, contributing to their sustainability and prosperity.

The LISC study, shaped by community input, provides a well-vetted roadmap for creating a sustainable and respected space that ensures future growth and success. We wholeheartedly align with the insights from this study, seeing Hacienda Mexican Foods as a prime candidate for this opportunity and an ideal company to establish itself at this location.

As highlighted by the Tortilla Industry Association, tortillas constitute the fastest-growing segment in the baking industry. In the U.S., annual tortilla sales surpass those of all other ethnic and specialty breads, including bagels, croissants, muffins, and pita bread. Given the ongoing FDA oversight and regulatory landscape in the food industry, along with the various certifications required to meet customer demands, having a state-of-the-art facility becomes paramount.

The proposed facility not only emphasizes its Latino identity but also integrates cultural elements such as art, music, and food. It envisions a diverse range of uses, including retail and office spaces, along with an outlet that connects with the vibrant Vernor Corridor.
